How Long?

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint:” Luke 18:1. The New Testament: A Translation in the Language of the People translates the last part of this scripture as “how necessary it is for people always to pray and never to give up.” The parable that followed Luke 18:2-5 is known to many as the parable of the importunate woman. Jesus spoke this parable to encourage us not to lose heart. Prayers by believers are not always answered as the prayer is completed, they take time before they are answered. Some will become discouraged because the prayers are not answered immediately.
Prayers which are not answered immediately require us to use our faith to trust that God will answer because he always does. Sometimes the answer is no when we want a yes. Our trust in him is based upon the fact that we know that whatever the answer, in God’s view, it will be in our best interest.
We must be strong and not give in to doubt, unbelief, discouragement or fear. Daniel had to wait 21 days for his answer. We need to understand that the devil wants to hinder our prayers so we must resist all opposition to the answer and rebuke the devil and order him away from our life so we can receive our prayer answer. Once we understand that we need to be persistent in our prayers, we can answer the question of How Long? The answer is: we need to pray until we get our answer.
